What to Do in a Dental Emergency

If a Tooth Is Knocked Out
Pick it up by the crown, not the root.
Rinse gently with water (do not scrub).
Try to place it back in the socket, or store it in a container of milk or saliva.
Call us immediately—success is highest within 30 minutes of the injury.
If You Have Severe Pain or Swelling
Rinse with warm salt water.
Use floss to ensure no food is trapped between teeth.
Apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek to reduce swelling.
If a Tooth Is Broken or Cracked
Rinse with warm water to clean the area.
Save any broken pieces and bring them with you.
Apply gauze if there is bleeding and a cold compress for swelling.
